The Seiko Prospex SNR045 has a sapphire crystal which provides a durable and clear viewing surface for the dial. This type of crystal is highly resistant to scratches and does not discolor over time. Sapphire is also resistant to most chemicals and less likely to shatter compared to other materials, making it a safer choice for the watch wearer. Thefore sapphire is a good choice for high-end wristwatches. It is of course an expensive option, compared to other materials, like plexiglass.
This watch is a dive watch, meaning it was designed and built specifically for underwater use. All dive watches need to have water resistance of at least 20 bar / 200 meters, legibility in low-light conditions, a timing feature (e.g.: rotating bezel), running indicator and corrosion resistance.
